Danbury Mayor Dean Esposito was at Studio I-95 on Thursday (9/29/22) to appear on the Ethan, Lou and Large Dave Morning Show.
We covered a wide range of topics with Esposito, but what stood out were some exciting communication-related announcements. The mayor has added a public relations specialist to his staff (we’ll get to that) and the City is launching a new website on Monday (3/10/22). Here’s what the mayor had to say about the tech update.
“This is an overall better and easier operation to get information about the city of Danbury.”
I asked the mayor specific questions about the program the city will use, wondering if it was a program I knew about. I learned that this program was specially designed for municipal websites. The mayor and his staff believe that the effectiveness of the program can accelerate and improve their ability to inform residents.
We were also joined in the studio by two City Hall staff. The Mayor introduced us to Erin Henry, public relations specialist and media expert. The mayor had this to say about his role:
“Anything to do with the impact on the city. In the event of a citywide emergency or event, the Chief of Police, Fire Chief, Health Department and our Operations Manager emergency, Matt Cassavechia. And, Erin is looking after them directly, so if there’s an issue where we need to let the public know, ASAP, Erin will be there. She’s going to be a huge asset to us.
Erin Henry – Public Relations Specialist for Emergency Management
Henry has an impressive media background, including working with viewers as a TV news reporter for WFSB under her maiden name Erin Edwards. .
I spoke with Erin Henry and asked her when she started labor, if she was excited, and what she hoped to accomplish. Here’s what she had to say:
“I started my new role earlier this month on September 7. I have worked telling stories in CT communities for several years, and I am thrilled now to be able to focus on one community.
My main goal is to establish a clear line of communication between police, fire, emergency management and health services with the people of Danbury so they can stay as informed as possible.
Also, the city’s public safety services do an amazing job serving the people of Danbury, so I’d like to highlight their accomplishments. In the short time that I have been here, I have really understood how much they care about this city and how passionate they are about the people here. I think it’s important that these stories are told.”
The city has been criticized in the past for its late media response to emergency and media issues. In all honesty, there’s no beat to social media “news,” but this effort by the city to streamline communication should go a long way.
Henry’s entry will improve communication between City agencies and the public. She will work directly with the media in Danbury (we have too many), and her presence will relieve Kleinhans of some duties, allowing him time to focus on issues between CT State and Hat City.
John Kleinhans – Advisor in communication and governmental affairs
Kleinhans is a political heavyweight in Hartford. Mayor Esposito talks to me all the time about his job. He’s very tall and I call him Langerghans which is a very obscure reference to Seinfeld.
You can listen to the communication/technology part of our discussion with the mayor below.
Listen to our full interview with Danbury Mayor Dean Esposito below. In it, we discussed the infamous coward Danbury Moose, a possible second year for San Gennaro, and new business in Danbury.
I opened my Adobe software and installed the photos of the mayor and Erin Henry, to do a split screen photo. I added two official photos that I have in my Danbury town files and this is how it came out.
So I changed it to that.
We also talked about it on the Ethan, Lou & Large Dave Morning Show Friday (9/30/22).
This one looks much less disturbing.
A Danbury resident has an amazing encounter with the famous moose
His name is Daryl Pitman, and he is a Danbury resident who recently had a very close encounter with a moose that has become famous in the Greater Danbury area. Over the past few days this moose has been seen in several locations in Danbury, he has been seen in Newtown, New Fairfield, Woodbury and even Pawling, NY to name a few.
I saw Daryl’s pics in a different moose-related thread and contacted him. I asked him to tell me more. I wanted to know if these photos were real? Did he take the pictures? Was it at Danbury? When was it? How did he feel. An excited Daryl wrote back to me with the following responses.
Ethan and Lou’s 15th birthday party got ultra wild
It was the party to end all parties, Ethan and Lou’s 15th birthday party at the Golden Leaf in Brookfield, CT. The idea was simple, go somewhere no-frills, get together with friends from the show, and look back on a decade and a half of the Ethan and Lou Morning Show. Lots of people showed up and we had a wonderful, maybe too much fun time.
