The General Manager of Sales oversees all aspects of the sales department, including personnel management, advertising inventory across all channels, setting and achieving revenue goals, and budgeting. This position works directly with the General Manager and other department heads to meet goals and deadlines.

  • Provides leadership to broadcast/web sales teams
  • Makes decisions regarding the hiring, evaluation, promotion and termination of employees
  • Develops and executes sales strategies that result in exceeding revenue targets for local, national, digital and new product revenue
  • Supervise and train the Local Sales Manager and the Digital Sales Manager
  • Stimulates the development of new business
  • Manages inventory and revenue forecasts
  • Manages the recruitment and development of talented sales professionals
  • Manages NSM on-site during negotiations of all political and national sales efforts
  • Prepares budgets and approves budget expenditures
  • Resolves all customer complaints regarding sales and service
  • Plans and directs staffing, training, and performance reviews to develop and control sales and service programs
  • Leads sales department customer account efforts
  • Performs other assigned duties

Requirements & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, or mass communications, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • fluent English
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Minimum of five years of media sales experience, preferably in sales management
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Experience in guiding, directing and motivating subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance
  • Experience setting long-term goals and specifying strategies and actions to achieve them
  • Ability to identify the development needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise assist others to improve their knowledge or skills
  • Proficiency with computers, telephones, photocopiers and other office equipment
  • Wide Orbit and Matrix sales experience preferred

The Digital Content Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management and training of reporters, editors and digital producers in the local newsroom.

They oversee and enhance the daily presentation and promotion of all digital editorial content published and distributed locally and shared across the Nexstar network of sites and media platforms.

They develop and execute a strategy to maximize readership on CBS17.com, particularly among local audiences, through effective on- and off-site promotion.

They lead by example, never hesitating to jump into the mix and create high-performing content as needed.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Attends local editorial meetings and acts as a bridge between broadcast and digital in the local newsroom
  • Trains, coaches and manages a team of local reporters, editors and digital producers and can carry out each of their tasks effectively, if necessary
  • Evaluates website analytics and observes traffic trends as part of day-to-day and long-term decision making for audience growth strategy
  • Monitors all forms of major national, state, and local media (print, TV, digital, blogs, and social media) for the latest news, trends, and exclusive stories that will increase engagement and drive loyal local traffic
  • Excellent at writing engaging headlines for various platforms (site, social media, search) and developing this skill in others
  • Helps the team curate a steady stream of high-interest local content that is presented and promoted in a way that maximizes engagement and repeat site visits
  • Builds positive working relationships with newsroom staff and management, identifies and works collaboratively on corporate content, and creates opportunities to market digital content to broadcast
  • Oversees and strategizes for external content promotion via social media, newsletters, etc.
  • Responsible for achieving local site KPI objectives

Skills/experience requirements

  • A minimum of five years of experience in digital content and journalism
  • Able to research, interview, write and edit original news articles
  • Clever headline writer that entices readers to click and
  • Knowledge of SEO and AP Style best practices
  • Excellent understanding of Google Analytics; Chartbeat experience a plus
  • Strong multitasking abilities
  • Organized, technical problem solver and quick decision maker
  • Ease/ability to learn new technologies independently and quickly
  • Likes to work in a team and has excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, HTML and Photoshop/Lightroom an asset
  • A certain flexibility of schedule (night, weekend)

The News Producer produces daily newscasts, decides the order in which stories will be told, writes teasers and other content, times news programs, edits videos, and posts videos to the site website.

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience

  • Minimum of two years of experience in press operations (depending on market size)
  • Proficiency with computers, telephones, photocopiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
