Design, develop and implement Java applications to meet business needs as the next critical-thinking and solution-focused Intermediate Developer – Senior Liferay Developer wanted by a leading health insurance group. Following approved lifecycle methodologies, you will be required to create design documents, write code, and perform unit and functional testing of software while contributing to the overall architecture and standards of the group, acting as an SME and playing a software governance role. The ideal candidate should have Matric/Grade 12, have 3-6 years of experience in web development and content management systems in general, proficient in Liferay Enterprise DXP 7.0 and above, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and React with experience interface with RESTful and SOAP-based Web-Services and have a strong knowledge of design patterns and refactoring concepts.

Functions:

Delivery of projects and change requests –

  • Play a critical role in the design, development, testing and deployment of Liferay DXP solutions.
  • Work closely with business analysts, solution architects, and other developers to analyze and understand business requirements and the business case, to produce simple, cost-effective, and innovative solutions using the Liferay DXP product .
  • Design content templates, security templates, workflows and efficient templates for Liferay DXP product.
  • Solid experience in producing technical documentation, including class diagrams, activity diagrams, ERDs, operational and support documentation, etc.
  • Implement solutions designed in accordance with company standards, processes, tools and frameworks.
  • Apply usability and user experience best practices to all deliverables.
  • Use data from external data sources and APIs.
  • Thoroughly test the quality of produced software by participating in code reviews, using static code analysis tools, creating and running unit tests, functional tests, regression tests, performance tests, and stress testing (and evaluating the results of performance metrics collected through the Software).
  • Participate in feasibility studies, proofs of concept, JAD sessions, estimating and costing sessions, evaluate and review programming methods, tools and standards, etc.

Support –

  • Act as a technical liaison between customers, other engineering teams, as well as operational and support teams.
  • Maintain the system in production and provide support in the form of query resolution and defect fixes (including application performance improvements).

Security, maintenance and upgrades –

  • Review and audit existing solutions, designs and system architectures.
  • Ensure that the Liferay DXP product is updated with recent DXP product releases, fix packs, and security fix packs.
  • Ensure development embraces security best practices with the goal of introducing zero security vulnerabilities into the Liferay code base.

Governance, Oversight and Mentoring –

  • Drive team member skills development, coaching team members for performance and career development.
  • Ensure external federated development teams develop on Liferay DXP product in accordance with corporate governance process and standards.
  • Contribute to recruitment, staff training and performance management processes.
  • Continuously discover, evaluate, and implement new technologies to optimize development effectiveness.

Terms:

  • Senior/Grade 12 National Certificate.
  • At least 3-6 years of experience in web development and content management systems in general.
  • Liferay Enterprise DXP 7.0 and above.
  • HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and React.
  • Interfacing with RESTful and SOAP web services.
  • Strong knowledge of design patterns and refactoring concepts.
  • Hands-on expertise in performance tuning and optimization and problem analysis.
  • Strong technical expertise and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with modern project management, CI/CD and team collaboration tools (eg Jira, Jenkins, Gerrit).
  • Understanding of Agile principles.
  • Fluent oral and written English, with strong presentation skills.
  • Overtime may be required from time to time.
