Senior news producer shot dead in Karachi in attempted robbery

Senior news producer Ather Mateen Ahmed was gunned down in North Nazimabad locality of Karachi on Friday morning.

As reported he was shot 3 times during an attempted robbery while driving near KDA chorangi North Nazimabad.

The incident happened around 9 a.m. as the deceased was trying to save a passerby on the road from being assaulted.

According to SSP Central Rana Maroof, Ather Mateen crashed into the robbers’ motorcycle while trying to thwart the theft.

According to the SSP, the defendants fell from their motorcycle and opened fire on the vehicle, killing Ather Mateen.

Police say one of the motorcyclists fell to the ground and opened fire on Mateen’s car.

The assailant fired three shots, but Mateen only suffered one bullet which killed him instantly, police said.

After the incident, the accused abandoned his motorcycle, snatched another citizen’s motorcycle and fled.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing and police are obtaining details of the motorbike left behind by the accused.

In conversation with SAMAA, SP Gulberg Tahir Nawarni said that Samaa TV Senior News Producer Ather Mateen was on his way home from school after dropping off his children between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. when the motorbike tried to stop him .
