WIN News Tasmanian journalist Imogen Elliott (pictured right) received the 2022 LGBTQ Positive Media Award at the Australian Pride In Sport Awards earlier this week.
Their award was based on reporting from Tasmanian Liberal Senator Claire Chandler’s Save Women’s Sport Bill. Their coverage explored the Bill’s significance to the transgender community and the implications for grassroots sport in Tasmania. Elliott’s questioning of the Prime Minister on the matter drew national attention.
“It was a fantastic and inspiring evening and all of the finalists were amazing. I want to thank everyone who has supported me and my reporting,” Elliott said.
WIN News Tasmania News director Alex Johnston added: “We are extremely proud of Elliott and the award is well deserved. Elliott’s reporting contributed greatly to an important national discussion on a controversial issue. Their work is always fearless but fair.
Thank you to everyone who congratulated me following the @PrideinSportAU rewards. I am incredibly grateful for all the support. Special thanks to @LifelineAust for sponsoring the award and @WINNews_Tas for supporting my work. pic.twitter.com/U5HTSmvVxp
